IGRAINE


Igraine enters the story as the wife of Gorlois, Duke of Cornwall. King Uther Pendragon falls in love with her and attempts to force his attentions on her at his court. She informs her husband, who departs with her to Cornwall without asking leave. This sudden departure gives Uther Pendragon an excuse to make war on Gorlois. Gorlois conducts the war from the castle of Dimilioc but places his wife in safety in the castle of Tintagel. Disguised as Gorlois by Merlin, Uther Pendragon is able to enter Tintagel. He manages to rape Igraine by deceit – she believes that she is lying with her husband and becomes pregnant with Arthur. Her husband Gorlois dies in battle that same night. According to Geoffrey, Igraine also bore a daughter Anna (referred to as Morgause in other works) to Uther Pendragon, and this Anna later becoming the mother of Gawain and Mordred.

Some more Arthurian stuff

Mordred is the prince of a kingdom supposedly favored by the Morrigan and it’s
crest is three crows in flight. He’s called the Dusk Knight and his
weapon is an obsidian sword made on Avalon. He’s Arthur’s nephew via his
half sister Morgause. Mordred is more aware of the fey than nearly any
of the other knights due in no small part to Morgan’s influence as he
and his mother’s tutor.

Mordred is originally a part of
Morgause’s schemes but after being sent to Arthur’s court as a spy/agent
of discord basically realizes that no his uncle does not want to
continue Uther’s campaign, and oh god this court and his home court and
the foreign affairs around them is an absolute disaster waiting to
happen. Tries to keep the whole thing afloat but because he basically
has the personality of Damian Al Gul-Wayne he’s wildly unequipped to do
this.
