When Will (@nerdtastick) and I took our trip to Dayton, OH last week, we happened upon a used book store called Bonnett’s Book Store while walking around. As we were leaving, I saw a copy of The Boy’s King Arthur by Sidney Lanier wrapped in plastic, just sitting on one of the many piled-high shelves, as if it was just waiting for me. It cost only USD $9, and Will, being the amazing person he is, bought it for me (even though I was ready, willing, and able to buy it for myself). The owner informed me that the first two pages were loose, and that it was best just to leave them that way rather than trying to fix them myself.

The volume is the 1917 edition (!!) and comes with all of the original artwork by N.C. Wyeth. I’ve posted photos of a few of them, along with the pages they face. As you can probably see from the photos, the condition is not the greatest, but honestly, for $9, it’s an amazing find and to me it’s an absolute treasure.

Tagging some folks who I think might want to nerd out at this along with me: @litzbitz, @paladinical, @knight-of-the-kitchen, @pendragoth, @pendragondynasty, @noscorpsaladerive, @kieranhiggins, @galahadmordred, @fuckyeaharthuriana

Ohh, these looks amazing. That Camlann picture is my favourite depiction of Mordred and Arthur ever

It seems that Galahad is actually more liked by pagan fans than by people who still feel an affiliation to Christianity. Galahad didn’t get hated by writers until TH White, who probably saw a similarity between the Grail Quest and WWI.

It does seem like there are at least three positive books about Galahad pre The Once and Future King!

About the first part of the statement, I am not sure. I am not a pagan, I am an atheist and have been for ages but I love Galahad.

Why hasn’t anyone made an anime adaptation of arthurian legends?

I mean lancelot is like, this totally unbeatable guy, gawain has that power where his strength increases as the sun rises. Arthur is this special chosen king. They totally sound like protaganists in a shounen anime.

Story arcs in le morte d’arthur include fights, tests, tournaments, etc. All building toward an ultimate final battle

Where’s my legends of king Arthur and his knights anime?

There’s actually two anime adaptations!

Entaku no Kishi Monogatari Moero Arthur and the sequel Moero Arthur: Hakuba no Oji

More if you count the Fate universe anime!

There was a western cartoon too

Fantastic. Ok new request: give me all arthurian legend anime adaptation recommendations

Anime: only those two (but at least the first series is pretty good, even if quite old) and Fate stuff (I think there are three anime out now, but my favorite is Fare/Apocrypha. You don’t need to watch the other two to understand it). Arthur is also a character in The Seven Deadly Sins but I wouldn’t call it an arthurian anime.

About cartoons (series, not movies), the best one is probably Prince Valiant. There’s also that Knights of Justice cartoon (never watched it) and there’s some old parody cartoons like King Arthur’s disasters.
