No one will ever be as metal as Bedwyr in Culhwch ac Olwen

elleannor:

And Arthur called Bedwyr, who never shrank from any enterprise. And although he was one-handed, three warriors could not shed blood faster than he on the field of battle. Another property he had; his lance would produce a wound equal to those of nine opposing lances.

(…)

They rose to go forth, and Yspaddaden Penkawr seized one of the three poisoned darts that lay beside him, and threw it after them. And Bedwyr caught it, and flung it, and pierced Yspaddaden Penkawr grievously with it.

Guy has one fricking hand, catches a lance and throws it back at a giant like what up?

I know I’ve posted the links to some of these before, but I wanted to bring it back around.  I just posted Samoaphoenix’s review of K.M. Shea’s Endings over on Camelot’s library.  Samoaphoenix has been been badgering me to read this series every since she started and her review of Endings was compelling enough that I started reading.

K.M. Shea’s King Arthur and her Knights series is about a 21st Century girl named Britt Arthur’s who is pulled back in time by Merlin after the real Arthur ran off with a shepherdess before he could pull the sword from the stone.  Merlin wants Britt to pull the sword from the stone as Arthur and help him unite the kingdoms under one ruler.  I know this sounds like a potentially lame premise, but I swear it’s not (and Samoaphoenix swears too).  I started with the last book and am circling back around, but so far it’s clear that K.M. Shea has a great handling on all the Arthurian characters.  That’s probably the most compelling part of the series so far, although there are some great twists on the legend as well.  Seriously, if you’re looking for a fresh and innovative take on the legend that still manages to include all the things that make it great, you can’t do much better than this series.

Anyways, here’s the links to Samoaphoenix’s reviews of the series in case anyone is curious.  As always, spoilers ahead.

Uther Douche Rankings

arthurian-mythia:

We decided after seeing enough Uthers to Rank them by how big an Arse they are.

This is not meant as anything against these actors, it’s just really against the character they are playing.

Now in descending order from lease to most horrible …

Mark Jax (Merlin 1998)

Gabriel Byrne (Excalibur 1981)

And the Number One Douchest, Most Dickish Uther is!

Brian Coburn (The Legend of King Arthur)

Perfect

Having only watched the first two now I really have to wonder how much of an asshole the last one had to be in order to beat both of them

The Legend of King Arthur episodes are all on youtube : D and we watch them together every saturday afternoon (NY time)! We watched ep 1 and 2 this week 🙂
