29 april group chat

So, we will soon start our weekly arthurian chat + trash (or not trash) arthurian tv. For this week, we had to watch an episode of The Adventures of Sir Lancelot, but unfortunately it’s not online anymore.

This is the post with the info (and the Hello Kitty arthurian episode we can start with). Alternatively to the Lancelot episode, I think we could watch one or a couple of episodes from The Legend of King Arthur!
This tv show is in horrible quality, but it’s quite good, I really love it.

Otherwise we can watch a classic: A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court (the one with the little girl!)

So it looks like Àstrid won’t be playing Guinevere in King Arthur: Legend of the Sword after all @fuckyeaharthuriana. So disappointing.

Ritchie’s
fluid style has, it appears, brought about even greater changes to the movie
than the presence or not of a few roof-top bowmen. During production, for
example, French-Spanish actor Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey (Pirates of the Caribbean:
On Stranger Tides) is playing queen-to-be Guinevere
– albeit a Guinevere who
can weave animal-bewitching magic.
But by the time Empire sees the film in
February 2017, any romance between her and Arthur is reduced to a few flirtations,
and she’s credited only as ‘The Mage’.
It’s no big deal, Ritchie says when we
ask him about it later. “There’s a natural evolution that takes place
during the process of filmmaking and my job is to steer the head of that
tiger,” he says, admitting to dialling down the romance. “If
something’s working you run with it, and if something isn’t working you create
something else. Films have a habit of making themselves and really all you’ve
got to do is stand back and sort of nudge it along.” (Empire June 2017)

Like who cares
about the romance, I just wanted to see a magical badass Guinevere. So pissed. And
you just know that if they ever do a sequel we will get some stereotypical
Guinevere who just sits around doing nothing until she gets to ~seduce Lancelot
and bring down the kingdom because apparently that’s all she’s good for. /bitter

What? I was so sure she was Guinevere!
