hey arthurian tumblr

inkstainedqueer:

I’m a witchy nerd who is curious about Arthuriana from a pagan perspective. I’ve just purchased “

Avalon Within: A Sacred Journey of Myth, Mystery, and Inner Wisdom

“ which looks okaaay. I’m using it as a starting point, to say the least. (or I will, once it arrives in the mail)

I’m curious to check out Arthurian Magic by John and Caitlin Matthews and Viriginia Chandler. I know it’s probably got some culturally appropriative bits in there somewhere but it looks really useful to provoke further thoughts. I’m also curious about the chapter on making what seems to be an Arthurian calendar.

thoughts, suggestions, comments on book choices?

I notice the Arthurian tradition seems very keen on love and light, which has me suspicious but I’ve been doing way too hardcore shadow work these past few years so maybe it will be good for me.

ANYWAY

I’ve already read the Morte D’Artur, The Once and Future King, Historia Regum Britanniae, the Mists of Avalon, and the Mabinogian. I’m halfway through the Yvain tale in the Arthurian Romances. I’ve not read Sir Gawain yet though. any other good myths or stories that I’m missing?

I think Matthews might be the author for you, maybe? But I am the worst person to talk about spirituality and paganism in arthuriana because I am an atheist.

Arthurian calendar (the book) is more about short stories than spirituality.
