Lancelot rescues Guinevere
With only one exception, every character who appears or is mentioned on The Campaign for Camelot is based on a character from an Arthurian source. From the main characters:
Mordred – Mordred
Kay – Kay
Gavin – Gawain
Nelly – Ragnelle
Vera – Bedivere and Guinevere
Vicky – Gwenhwyfach
Hannah – Hank Morgan (of A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court)Izzy is also based on an Arthurian character, but we’re keeping that one under wraps. If you can guess who it is, we’ll send you a Mordred for School Board pin!
Thank you!!
I want to think Izzy is Galahad! Or maybe Percival? Thank you again for your answer!
Those are both good guesses, but nope! We’ve given a couple of hints on Twitter:
1. Izzy is not genderbent (so his source character is also male).
2. To our knowledge, the character Izzy is based on only appears in one classic Arthurian source (we’re not sure he’s even shown up in any modern adaptations) but he is a major character in that story.
And since you mentioned it in your tags, we’ll throw in a third hint:
3. Izzy’s last name (Hammer) is meaningful.
Wait… There’s that guy… what’s his name… Iddawg? Iddowg? Whatever, that Idd-something Something Prydain guy, the one who fucked everything up when he messed the words in the messages from Arthur and Mordred to each other and then the Battle of Camlann happened and all that jazz. It’s him?
Yes! Izzy is based on Iddawg, from “The Dream of Rhonabwy.” If you send us an address in a private message, we’ll send you your Mordred for School Board pin!
(To anyone disappointed on missing out on the pin: Don’t worry, there’ll be more opportunities to get them.)

New version, with a charcoal base and some added reds.
I don’t remember when I decided that Gaheris had a red beard, but there you go: he has a red beard. That *might* be why he is Gawain’s favourite brother.
Five Orkney Brothers, from left to right: Gareth, Gaheris, Gawain, Agravain, Mordred.
I have a feeling that the editor is getting sick of Malory’s shit.
Attempting an arthurian inktober !
- Swift – Perceval on the Devil-Horse (Lancelot-Graal, Continuation Manessier, etc.)
- Divided – Gawain fighting against the people of Escavalon, aided by their princess with a checkboard as a shield while she throws chess pawns (Conte du Graal)
- Poison – Cador striking the snake constricting Caradoc’s arm while he jumps to bite Guinier’s breas, in a pool of milk, unfortunately cutting Guinier’s nipple. (First Continuation)
Omg this is amazing!
“And ever Sir Lancelot wept, as he had been a child that had been beaten.”
I don’t normally post my art here anymore, but I am rather pleased with how this painting of King Arthur came out.
I’m not sure exactly why it’s snowing… but hey, 2016 has been rough and even Arthur is feeling the stress of his impending battle with Mordred.
Arthur has become a kind of personal benchmark for my art and I’m content to paint and repaint him every couple of years or so, until the end of time.
It’s satisfying to see how far I’ve come and it’s a useful tool for determining where I still need to grow as an artist. So the second… much simpler drawing.. is from back in 2007. You can see that I still lack imagination when it comes to poses. Maybe that’s why I’ve taken to building 3D environments these days.
I was in Lyon, France, for Ldoll and accidentally discovered this pub :).
OHHH. Tempting!
