Put a character/book in my ask

Oh no, I want to do the “put a x in my ask and I will answer with “ both for arthurian characters:

never heard of | so bad I’ll pretend to not know them | boring | indifferent | great | a favorite |  the reason why I started reading arthuriana

and arthurian books:

I want to read it | never heard of | so bad I forgot the plot | boring | okay | I’ll probably re-read it | favorite | BEST

Do you think it’s feasible to combine the way we usually imagine Arthurian Legend–the knights, magic, etc–with the story of the historical Arthur?

Honestly, I think everything is feasible! I think if someone really wants to combine the imaginary with an historical accuracy, there are ways. Maybe using two Arthurs (one from legends, like from the Welsh texts) and an Arthur in the “typical arthurian medieval times” who is named like the famous Arthur from the past but that does the majority of the Malory stuff. Basically separating the whole Annales/Welsh/Monmouth with the Malory (a part from the things that are copied into Malory).

Or, simply, just moving everything in a more aesthetically arthurian (as in, knights, castles etc.) period, like many movies do.

I am not sure about magic!

Regarding the “opposites attract” of Galahad/Mordred: the difference between them is not their actions, but how the narrative frames them. Both are bastards with daddy issues who put place events calculated to end up destroying everything that their fathers ever worked for. The difference is that the narrative directly tells you that that is what Mordred is doing.

I love this so much. Thank you for sending this take/perspective!

Have you ever heard Heather Dale’s music that’s based around Arthurian Legend? If so, what’s your opinion?

Yes! It is actually one of the first arthurian music I have ever found 🙂 and I love it. I also admit I like Heather Dale in general and her other albums too.

I adored the musical she made with S. J. Tucker as well, both the new songs and the re-edition of old songs (Mordred lullaby was excellent).

My favourite song is Crashing Down.

Have you heard that FAE Magazine is going to have a special Arthurian themed Spring issue? They’re currently asking for commisions. htt ps :/ / m.f acebook. com/ FaeMagazine/ It would be great if you could pass on the word.

I didn’t know about it, but it seems amazing!!

Can you do a collection of gifs of Arthur pulling the sword out of the stone from various Arthurian films/tv shows?

I WISH I COULD, ANON FRIEND! unfortunately I’m terrible at gif making (and my old laptop only barely supports gimp) but I really wish I could! Hopefully some talented gif maker will see this message
