Chapter Eighteen: A Smuggler’s Ship

Reaching the cockpit, Lynette paused
as she stared at the vast darkness of space just outside the window.  Slowly she dropped into the pilot’s seat and
started tapping at the console, taking a sensor reading.  Maybe they had simply overshot when they
dropped out of hyperspace?  After all,
they’d been forced to override the nav computer before making the jump and
there were much worse possibilities out there than traveling a little too
far.  But if that was the case, why
hadn’t Ax turned them around?  Why was he
so engrossed in a readout from the navigation computer?

The sensor readings came back
without picking up any planets in their immediate vicinity.  There was a small moon with a high output of
electromagnetic radiation.  But no
planet.

“Ax?” Lynette asked.

“Yeah?” he grunted, all of his
attention still on the nav computer.

“Where are we?” Lynette asked.

Ax shook his head as he finally
looked up from the computer.  “Right
where we’re supposed to be.”

“No,” Lynette said.  “No, because where we’re supposed to be is at
a planet.  There’s no planet here Ax!”

So it’s finally done.

so like, I figured Galahad might have a bit of a crisis of faith that was on coming???

But like. I grew up in a really, really strict Catholic household that drove me to atheism like a shot so like?? I kinda struggled with writing it a little?? I might come back to it later but I’m basing it on my experience of it happening piece by piece until some sudden realisation?? Idk, depending on the response I might come back to it. Idk I’m trying but I struggle with writing a character going back to faith since I have such negative memories about it? Idk, if anyone has any tips to help me out, hit me up.

Also sorry it’s so short??

Also also ya know guys I might just keep this up as a thing alongside developing my own story- I’ll do most/any snippets sent my way, like a prompt thing? Ya’ll think you might be into that or nah?

My edit: My OTPs in the Arthurian Legends [1/?]: Sir Mordred & Sir Galahad – The Knight of the Sangrail & the Traitor of Camelot

“You fool. You are going to kill yourself.”

“I would be happy to die in such a quest.”

“Do not go.” Galahad wondered if he really heard those words or if he had only played the whisper in the way he more hoped.

“My mother is a witch. She sees things-,” said Mordred.

“Your mother is dead,” interrupted Galahad. “Dead, yes. You will die too, I know. Or never return to Camelot.”

“I will return with the Grail.”

“You’re a liar, a bastard and an idiot. God, how I hate Camelot. Am I the one going mad or are all of you the ones who are mad? No matter, I hate you all the same.”
It was not right, thought Galahad, when he saw flames of insanity in Mordred’s eyes; it was not fair for the always secure Mordred to speak in this way. So Galahad hugged him.

He hugged Mordred, so that his words and his injuries were suffocated in his own neck. He hugged him, hearing him, sensing him shivering. I m only doing this to not listen to his blasphemies, thought Galahad, holding Mordred and closing his eyes. — quote from the marvellous “Still thy name is spoken”, a fanfic by @lucrezianoin  ❤

(Teorically Yesterday it was Mordred’s birthday, so I came too late, but still …)

(The first Victorian picture belongs to Arthur Hughes, but I can’t find the illustrator of Mordred’s picture .-. If someone is able to find the author, please report to me, thanks!)
