Le Fay Series – Research: Tintagel Castle

Tintagel Castle is rumored to have been the birthplace of King Arthur. However, the castle’s date doesn’t quite match up to the legend’s time period. Recent findings however reveal that there is indeed a matching time period building hidden there! How exciting!

Tintagel is a super important location in the Le Fay Series. It’s Morgan le Fay’s home. I have taken so many pictures of Tintagel that I’ve broken it up into several posts: the sea, Merlin’s Cave, and town.

The castle serves as an important inspiration for me as I build my own ancient ruins and castles in the Le Fay Series. (Hint: you’ll see some coming up in the series.) As you can see, it’s gorgeous! The mood is broody and dark with the epic sea crashing below the dark cliffs. It’s certainly worthy of being a Game of Thrones setting. I love the stacked slates and how it’s eroded and overgrown with time.

I hope you enjoyed the photos from Tintagel Castle!

Galahad and Ceridwen

In Welsh mythology, Ceridwen is a sorceress who has a magical cauldron that is associated with changes and rebirth. In another legend, the cauldron of rebirth appears with Bran the Blessed. You could say that the cauldron, a Celtic symbol, is the original basis for the grail legend.

And if you don’t follow this blog, I depict Galahad as a girl! Because why not (no, really, there’s no motive, just that I decided “why not”).

Gawain and the Green Knight: Part 1

It is New Year’s Day at King Arthur’s court, and a mysterious knight in green arrives at the holiday feast with a peculiar demand. He challenges anyone present to strike a blow against him with his fearsome great axe – but on the condition that, in one year’s time, he may deliver the same blow in return.

Sir Gawain, a knight of the Round Table, accepts the Green Knight’s challenge. Based on the 14th century Middle English poem and one of the great tales of the Arthurian Legend, Gawain’s story is one of courage and humility rather than feats of arms and physical strength. His honor tested, his loyalty questioned, Gawain leaves Camelot in search of a place called the Green Chapel to keep his end of the Green Knight’s bargain.

Gawain and the Green Knight is a comic adaptation of the Arthurian folktale of the same name, written and illustrated by Emily Cheeseman. It will be posted in four parts, with the goal of publishing a hardcover print edition of the complete story in early 2017.

Officially launching a new comic project! Gawain and the Green Knight is one of my favorite Arthurian stories, and adapting it to webcomic form has been a fun challenge. Pages 1-9 are available online, and the remaining story will be posted in 3 more parts. Reblogs and signal boosts are very appreciated, and I hope you enjoy the story so far. Thanks for reading!!
