“Protect this staff; one day, a great evil will come for it!”

I’ve been in the Transformers fandom since 2001, and having sat through five of these films, I can safely say there are a lot of hits and misses in them (mostly misses, unfortunately). Despite their flaws, there is the occasional bit of lore that shows through, and some good scenes buried among the bad.

The more recent film, The Last Knight, uses bits of Arthurian myth to expand the Transformers universe; in it, Merlin (Stanley Tucci) pleads with the Guardian Knights— a group of Transformers hiding on Earth during the Middle Ages— to help Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table win a decisive battle. I particularly like Merlin’s final plea to Stormreign (the red-armored Knight) that forms the basic theme of the Transformers mythos: “I know your world was destroyed; I’m sorry. But please, don’t let ours die, too.”

And admittedly, King Arthur being allied with giant robots is a weird twist on the story, but if any piece of fiction could make it work, Transformers is definitely it!
