there was a spot for one brief shining moment that was known as Camelot:

LANCELOT DU LAC & GALAHAD

Up until the Quest of the Holy Grail, the chief grail knight had always been Perceval of Chrétien’s Perceval, and the best knight in the world had been Lancelot from the third addition of the Vulgate Cycle. Now, however, a new knight takes the stage and is the only one who can complete the grail quest and claim the title of the most worthy and pure knight. The Quest of the Holy Grail adds to the grail tradition by introducing Sir Galahad, son of Sir Lancelot and Princess Elaine of Corbenic. He is the grail knight and as he is not only Lancelot’s son, but also the usurper of Lancelot’s reputation, he is constantly compared to his father. In looks, there is no mistaking that Galahad is the son of Lancelot. In Miles’ The Child of the Holy Grail when the truth comes out it is said that no one even had to ask if he was Lancelot’s son. In the Quest of the Holy Grail it says, “ he is amazingly young and looks so like Lancelot … all [are] saying he must stem from that root”.  And not only are they similar in looks, but in their prowess as knights. Traditionally Lancelot is the best knight. He is never defeated and all respect him. The same can be said of Galahad, despite his age. And yet there is one difference that elevates Galahad far above Lancelot and all other knights – Galahad is the only knight who can complete the grail quest.

arthurian media coming soon (?)

fuckyeaharthuriana:

It’s getting harder to find new arthurian media without the imdb character function, but here’s some!

  • No new information, as far as I know on

The Warlord Chronicles by Bernard Cornwell maybe chosen for a tv show [x]

  • A new Netflix series by Frank Miller, where Nimue is the main character [x]
  • Galahad movie (I can see a sneak peak of the plot from the google search and it says “removed from Camelot to a futuristic realm and forced to battle against the greatest fighters of all time or see everything he has come to love”) [x]
  • Mordred movie, which has a trailer already [x] and from their website it looks like they are editing it
  • The Sword in the Stone action movie is moving forward and now has a director [x]
  • The webseries The Campaign for Camelot is ongoing so expect new episodes! [x]
  • Also! Kaamelott is still in the making (the movie) so hopefully we’ll have news on that as well!

And for a sad news, The Librarians has been cancelled, so there won’t be any season 5 or more arthurian exploration in that!

Plus: of course, I don’t have to write it, but we all now the Guy Ritchie’s franchise idea is dead!

Thanks to a kind anon, more news:Disney wants to create an adaptation of the T. A. Barron’s Merlin books. They contacted Ridley Scott (director) and Philippa Boyens is the writer. [x]
The new Hellboy movie is coming out soon (2019) and it is based on a comic with arthurian elements. Among these, the Blood Queen is supposed to be Nimue (and is played by Milla Jovovich). [x]

2 new additions 4 your New Arthurian Media post: 1)Disney wants Ridley Scott 2 direct movies based on TA Barron’s Young Merlin Saga. 2)In January 2018 we’ll have a new Hellboy movie based on “Wild Hunt” comic, which talks abt Celtic&Arthurian myth. Morgan, Arthur &Nimue appear. Mignola (Hellboy’s creator) says the movie is faithful 2 the comic. Nimue aka “Queen of Blood” is the villain, played by Milla Jovovich. With Hellboy & Netflix, it seems we’ll have a lot of Nimue, both as hero & villain!

Thank you so much, anon! I am adding everything to the post!

hi, im new to your blog but i was wondering if you could give the general storyline of Lancelot and Guinevere? I tried to search on my own but there are so many versions, which one would be the “general” one?

katiemcgrath:

 I suppose I mostly follow Le Morte d’Arthur, though as with almost all literature it has it’s problems. In a quick summary;

Guinevere is kidnapped. Booo. Lancelot goes to the tower and saves her. Stuff happens, they do some naughty naughty. [Although in every edit that I’ve made I have made their relationship strictly non-sexual but thinking of perhaps changing that? idk]. More stuff happens, Guinevere gets extremely jealous when Elaine comes along and banishes Lancelot from court, at one point he jumps out a window. More stuff happens. Mordred and Agravaine find out about Guinevere and Lancelot and go to Arthur and are like ‘omg!!! arrrtttieee! your wifey is cheating on you’. And Arthur’s like ‘but I don’t wanna sentence her to death! :(’ and people are like ‘umh… you gotta’. So at this point Lancerunaway runs away. So Jenny’s there about to be burnt at the stake BUT THEN PRINCE CHARMING ON HIS WHITE HORSE COMES ALONG and is like ‘jeeeeeeennyyy!’ and she’s like ‘LAAANNNCEEYY’ and so yeah. And so then Artie’s like ‘I GOTTA FIGHT LANCELOT!!’ and so Arthur chases him to France and whilst he’s away, his bastard son, Mordred, is like; ‘my daddy is so mean. I should be King and Marry my step-mamma, Guinevere’. So Arthur comes back and battles Mordred, they both die. So Guinevere is at Almesbury convent and Lancelot goes to her and she faints… THREE TIMES!!! THREE TIMES SHE FAINTS! And Lance is like ‘Gwennypoo! Come with me! COME WITH ME!!’ and Jenny’s like ‘No. We have done bad. We do bad stuff.’ and so yeah. So then Guinevere dies as a nun in the convent and Lancelot takes her body to Glastonbury and buries her with Arthur. Lamcey goes back to the monk place and is so heartbroken without his sweet dearest, most darling, lovey-dovey love and dies himself.

“Truly mine heart would not serve to sustain my careful body.”

Every adaptation is different and none is right or wrong [except bbc merlin. ‘cause that is wrong]. Most stories follow a similar line. In a lot of older stories Lancelot didn’t exist. in a lot Guinevere is completely devoted to Arthur.

In my eyes I either see them as Guinevere is helplessly and utterly in love with Lancelot as her sweetest and most devoted lover and she loves Arthur as her liege lord and King and that’s where the conflict is. Love vs honour. Other times, I see it as She loves them both in equal manners but she is not allowed to. Always, Lancelot loves Arthur as much as he does Guinevere and that’s the conflict for him. And Arthur is always heartbroken. And recently I’ve been toying with the idea of them loving eachother and happiness and even sexiness together, but yet to find a fancast for that.
