New book!

If you don’t know, Amazon and Kindle have this website called Kindle Scout. It’s a great way to find and support new authors and books. It’s a program for aspiring authors to go on and submit a proposal for a book that they’ve written so that it can be published.

The great thing about it is that anyone with an Amazon account can go on and join. And getting an Amazon account takes less than a minute. You go on Kindle Scout, nominate three books, and if they are published you get a FREE copy of it.

So, I’ve put up a book on there called The Once and Future Queen.

Growing up, even as a guy, I felt that women are treated very poorly in the fantasy genre. As an adult, I researched why women suffer so much from the genre, and a big contributor is an Arthurian legend. You have Guinevere ostracized and condemned for adultery, Morgana condemned as a villain because of her magical abilities, and so many other women villainized for their actions. They suffer from sexism and misogynism. Many authors have tried to reverse it, but I took it a step further with my book.

One of the biggest problems is Guinevere is essentially a love interest. Instead of making her one, I took some heavy liberties with the story (since there are no original sources anyway) and made Guinevere Arthur’s twin sister. Furthermore, I made her be the one who actually pulls Excalibur from the Stone. Arthur is enraged, and using his own magician and riled up men, takes the kingdom from her. The story revolves around her getting Camelot back.

The story journey of Guinevere is seen through the eyes of a teenage boy named Liam. Liam is a Latino teen who is accidentally summoned from the 21st century to 6th century Wales. His classmate Tristan is also taken back in time. In the story, Liam has to learn how to deal with the violent and gruesome time period. He also begins to explore and actually struggle with his sexuality.

I hope you guys can support me by going to the Kindle Scout website and nominating me and other authors as well. You get a free copy, and who doesn’t love free books?

You’ll be helping not just me, but it’ll help get more feminist and LGBT stories in the fantasy genre.

Books to read and review for the future

Next group movie :
Excalibur Rising (featuring evil mordred, too much drama, a secret son of Arthur, a fleeting moment of Kay and Bedivere together)

Or

King Arthur and the Knights of the round table (featuring mordred redemption, no Arthurian Knights but only descendant, martial art?, alien devices???)

What u think of 1981 Excalibur? Its good, but i think it’s a bit overrated. sometimes i don’t know what to think, its like the characters (Arthur&Morgan specially) slowly turn into stereotypes &the complexity’s gone, just good vs. evil. Morgan is interesting, with complex motivations (she’s fascinated with Merlin, but hates him & Arthur for the destruction of her family) but after having Mordred she isn’t the repentant sister, but just another Sexy Evil Queen must be destroyed by the male heroes.

I agree about everything! I feel like Excalibur would have gained in becoming a TV show or at least longer as everything seems scrambled at one point. It’s still a good movie, I think, but I much preferred the first part. I am glad for how the character of Merlin is, at least: he has a nice humor.
